Hello

My name is Amanda Cami, and I’m a biology major with a chemistry minor at Florida International University, set to graduate in Summer 2025. I am Hispanic with Cuban roots, and as a first-generation college student, my family has always been my greatest source of support and motivation. Their encouragement has guided me through my academic and professional journey. I’m currently involved in several roles that have helped me grow both personally and professionally. I work as a medical scribe at Nicklaus Children's Hospital Emergency Department, where I document patient encounters and assist doctors, PAs, and NPs while learning from a wide variety of cases. I also volunteer for a hospice organization, visiting patients weekly to provide companionship and emotional support during end-of-life care. As a peer-led team leader, I’ve taught cell biology and will soon be leading discussion-based sessions for introductory biology. Additionally, I’m a learning assistant for introductory microbiology, where I help professors and students create a better learning environment. Beyond these roles, I volunteer with the Crisis Text Line, supporting people in tough moments by simply being there to listen. I want to make an impact in medicine by getting involved in meaningful research, volunteering to make a difference, exploring different areas of the field, and eventually applying to medical school to become a physician. My goal is to keep growing my clinical experience while learning how research can drive real progress in healthcare. I am especially excited to explore how this lab can help me connect my interest in cardiology with innovative approaches to improving patient care. I believe I can bring strong teamwork, adaptability, and a sense of balance to the lab. Working in high-stress environments like the emergency department and the Crisis Text Line has taught me how to stay focused, compassionate, and dependable under pressure. I approach my work with empathy and a true desire to learn, which I think would contribute to the lab’s collaborative and supportive environment. As a student with a busy schedule, I’ve learned to stay organized and prioritize communication and respect when working with others. You can count on me to be reliable, proactive, and committed to contributing to the team’s success. I’m excited to bring my unique perspective and experiences to the lab while learning skills that will help me grow as a researcher and future physician.
